On Original Sin

Due to the original sin, committed by our first parents, Adam and Eve, all of us are inclined to sin, this is what we call concupiscence. Our passions and will are prone to evil because our human nature is darkened by sin and depraved of the divine life of God within us. This is a reality that all of us should be aware of because it helps us to be more conscious of our thoughts, words, and actions. Because of this, God sent His son, Jesus to heal us and to bring us back to God. Jesus showed us how to avoid evil, how to be not a slave of sin, and how to grow in holiness. Jesus is the antidote for all of this. Though the sin of our first parents is a tragedy, it can be a beacon of hope for all mankind to know, love, and serve God all the more, when Jesus became one of us. That is why on Easter, the Exultet exclaims “O truly necessary sin of Adam, destroyed completely by the Death of Christ! O happy fault that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer! O truly blessed night, worthy alone to know the time and hour when Christ rose from the underworld!” The sin committed by our first parents was depicted as a necessary and happy fault because of its fruit: Our Lord Jesus Christ who became one of us.
