- Be concerned for what is noble in the sight of all
- Live at peace for all
- Conquer evil by good
- The more aware we can become of our own failings, the more intentionally we can conquer that through grace and virtue
Do not's
1. Do not get on a soapbox
- Do not be more Catholic than the Pope
- Joy is the charism of a Catholic
- We are not angels
2. Do not judge
- The Word of God is sword, a weapon to attack or you can use it to defend
- Knowing how to defend is more important than knowing how to attack
- Truth is used to defend not to attack
3. Do not abuse your gifts
- Do not use intellect as a weapon
- Don't use your wit as passive aggression
- Every gifts, talents and skills is a gift from the Father, the only thing that you and I can claim is all ours is our sin, everything else is a gift
- Early is on time and on time is late
- Time is our greatest commodity
4. Do not be negative
- Enthusiasm is contagious
- If you're gonna offer a problem, you better offer a solution or offer their willingness to be part of the solution
5. Do not be afraid to fail
- Do not be afraid to take risk
- Fear inhibits progress, fear keeps you standing still
- Faith will move you forward
- Faith elicits movements
- You are not called to be successful, you are called to be faithful
6. Do not let disagreements escalate
- Damage control is a lot harder than damage avoidance
- Prudence is asking the right questions
7. Do not forget how to listen
- People will tell you everything you need to know about how you're doing if you listen
- Evaluation
8. Do not communicate via screens
- easily to mistake
9. Don't build a tower without counting the cost
- do not act impulsively
10. Do not procrastinate and call it discernment
- Do not suffer from indecision
- If you wait too long you're not leading
- If the Lord makes it clear, move!
- Forward
11. Do not be prideful
- Don't be afraid to say no
- Do not be afraid to say I don't know (I need time and pray about it) follow up
- Keep you words and promise
12. Do not do it because that's the way it's always been done
- Began spirit led is not continue to be spirit led
13. Do not be inauthentic
- Role playing authenticity is different than living it
- If you're not the same person before the meeting than you are during the meeting its an inauthenticity
- Do not underestimate the absolute destructive nature that small acts of disobedience and dishonesty have
14. Do not turn a blind eye
- Don't refuse to deal with the weak links
- If you continue to see that kind of leadership, they will not respect and follow you
- When you brother sins, rebuke him and when he repents, forgive him
15. Do not fly solo
- If you're a good leader, whatever you're leading is gonna be stronger when you left- that's the measure- if people are better- If the person that comes after you is better leader because of you, you've led
16. Do not leave people wandering
- If you fail to set realistic priorities, you are leaving them in wait for you, but if they understand not only what they have to do but the order in which they have to do it for the greater good, you were gonna achieve far greater success far soon
- Trust others that they can do it
17. Do not be weak
- meekness is not weakness
- You are not called to be popular, you are called to be faithful
- If the greater glory of God means that you have to be a Paschal Lamb in certain situations, are you willing to do it?
- Are you willing to stand despite hardship
18. Do not be inefficient
- wasting time is dangerous
- Prioritize
- Inefficiency is what stifles forward movement
19. Do not sit and wait
- Be active
- Solve
21. Do not chastise publicly
- Praise in public, correct in private
- Leaders who do that are leading a mutiny
- If you are successful, praise those that you lead, if it goes poorly take responsibility
Conclusion
- Be a good steward of the Holy Spirit's continual movement in and through the Church
- You have to be open
- Start everything in the posture of humility, prayer an discernment
- Be Christlike
